The State Department acknowledged that the crew of the destroyer – USS Donald Cook – has been gravely demoralized ever since their vessel was flown over in the Black Sea by a Russian Sukhoi-24 (Su-24) fighter jet.
The USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) is a 4th generation guided missile destroyer whose key weapons are Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers.
The US destroyer is equipped with the most recent Aegis Combat System that can ensure the detection, tracking and destruction of hundreds of targets at the same time. For protection, it carries more than fifty anti-aircraft missiles of various types.
On April 10, 2014, the USS Donald Cook entered the waters of the Black Sea and on April 12 a Russian Su-24 tactical bomber flew over the vessel triggering an incident that, according to several media reports, completely demoralized its crew, so much so that the Pentagon issued a protest.
Meanwhile, the Russian Su-24 that buzzed the USS Donald Cook carried neither bombs nor missiles but only a basket mounted under the fuselage which, according to the Russian newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta, contained a Russian electronic warfare device called Khibiny.
As the Russian jet approached the US vessel, the electronic device disabled all radars, control circuits, systems, information transmission, etc. on board the US destroyer. In other words, the all-powerful Aegis system, now hooked up – or about to be – with the defense systems installed on NATO’s most modern ships was shut down, as turning off the TV set with the remote control.
The Russian Su-24 then simulated a missile attack against the USS Donald Cook, which was left literally deaf and blind. As if carrying out a training exercise, the Russian aircraft – unarmed – repeated the same maneuver 12 times before flying away.
After that, the 4th generation destroyer immediately set sail towards a port in Romania.
Since that incident, which the mainstream media have carefully covered up despite the widespread reactions sparked among defense industry experts, no US ship has ever approached Russian territorial waters again.
According to some specialized media, 27 sailors from the USS Donald Cook requested to be relieved from active service.”
So what happened in the Black Sea?
Having been out of circulation in the 1990s, the Russian navy fleet lost the edge it enjoyed during Soviet days. Restoring the above-water fleet was a very expensive and lengthy proposition.
Precious time was lost and trying to simply catch up would be risky for Russia. But Russia had advantages in other areas, one of them being submarines, much more sophisticated than those of the US.
Another area was the secret Russian electronic weapon capable of jamming the most sophisticated American military electronics, thus rendering the entire giant US fleet useless. These relatively inexpensive are proven to put Russia at an advantage over the our boys at sea.
When USS Donald Cook entered the Black Sea, Russians decided to send the US Navy a message. This was also a warning not to get any ideas about interfering in the Crimea, which was about to have a referendum to secede from Ukraine.
This is just another version of Russian built anti-electronics weapons… It’s a very small but precise version of the EMP.
And as I will soon show you… The Russian EMP is far more dangerous than ISIS or any other Islamic terrorist.

However what surprised me out out all of this is that if the plane could kick out an EMP powerful enough to disable our ship, how did it not knock itself out of the sky? Emp can very easily be directional based on the antenna design. The plan’s electronic equipment is probably shielded.

The truth was there was a politically motivated order that if any Russian Aircraft came into range the Captain was to turn off Aegis and leave the ship defenseless in order to not provoke an attack. This is why the crew were upset. In the past ships were allowed to lock onto incoming military aircraft. As for EMP, there is no way to produce an EMP stronger than what our ships have been hardened against without using a nuclear device hundreds of megatons in yield or a star. Non nuclear EMP is far to weak. The scenes in Godzilla were comical when EMP affected military hardware.

I guess it makes sense that the Russians would reveal such a game changing technology over such an important mission like the USS Donald Cook cruising the black sea. Putin is crazy enough to do it no doubt. I wonder what the size of such jamming device would be (The aegis system is quite potent) ? Can they really fit such a device on a Su-24 and/or every plane in their arsenal? Impressive work have to give it to the Russians. The reports I read said the crew resigned. I did not know we can operate a destroyer with only 27 people (I guess there is a bright side to every problem. )? One thing bothers me I have a tough time believing 27 USN sailors the entire crew would immediately resign over such incident. Can Navy personnel simply resign? Did the sailors have to purchase their own tickets home from Romania after resigning? Whatever the case it is good to know Romania has the available technology to help. Any news on when the ship entered the Romanian port? In the end one thing we know for sure always trust Russian news sources for important information .
